Dairy Free Products
We currently have Booja Booja Truffles available which are dairy-free, gluten-free, organic, suitable for vegans/lactose intolerant, low in sugar and extremely delicious too.
Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest significant amounts of lactose. For further information, please click here.
There are many other dairy free chocolates
available i.e. Green & Black make dairy free chocolate bars as do plamil,
which can be purchased from healthfood shops,
fairtrade shops and some supermarkets. Also some of the 'mint rounds' from supermarkets are OK.
There are many people who are being recognised as being lactose intolerant
now and many who choose to avoid dairy and other animal products (vegans),
which means that there are now loads of alternative dairy free foods
available.
Soya milk is now available in all supermarkets as an alternative to
cows/dairy milk. Many prefer the sweetened variety, usually sweetened with
apple juice to avoid extra sugar. It takes a while to get use to the flavour of soya milk, (much like when you stop
or start putting sugar in your tea), but is good once you're use to it. You
can use it in the same way as dairy milk in drinks, on breakfast cereals, in sauces etc
and there are non genetically modified and organic versions available i.e.
Provamel/Alpro and Plamil. Visit provamel and/or
plamilfoods for all their products such as yoghurt, mayonaise, ice
cream etc. Rice milk and oat milk are also available in healthfood shops and
supermarkets and are suitable for breakfast cereals and in sauces but are sometimes
less desirable in tea/coffee.
There are also dairy free/vegan cheeses available from healthfood shops.
Some do melt and others need making as a thick sauce first if you want to
have melted cheese on pizzas, tortilla chips etc. Healthfood shops and most Supermarkets
also sell dairy free margarine, which again can be used in the same way as
normal margarine i.e. on bread, in cooking, in baking etc.
Once you have become accustomed to the 'soya' flavour all soya
alternative products will taste 'normal' to you, to the extent that if you
only have the alternatives and accidently have a dairy product it will
probably taste odd. We would recommend that you obtain a copy of the 'Vegan
Shopper' guide, produced by the Vegan Society vegan society which
lists all dairy/lactose free food, drink, household goods (some washing
detergents contain milk and milk proteins) and personal products (soap,
etc).
There are further details on the Provamel web site re lactose intolerance.
Thank you for visiting Vegan Chocolates.
